Study

Luscombe studied Economics and Politics at the University of Durham between 1986 and 1989. In 1990-1991 she did a postgraduate in Journalism (BJTC) at Darlington College of Technology, after which she specialized in teaching English conversation classes (2003). Since the Universiteit Utrecht started a University College in Middelburg in 2004, she works there as a teacher in Media.[1] In 2012 Luscombe was promoted to Phd. at Universiteit Utrecht after writing her disseratation entitled ‘’Sending the right mesage. Forty years of BBC Radio News’’ (1960-2000).

Career

Luscombe worked as editorial assistant at Strategic Direction Publishers in Maidenhead (1990), as reporter, producer and newsreader at radio stations 2CR-FM, BBC Radio Solent, BBC South and the BBC Radio Newsroom in London (1992-1998). Between 1998 and 2002 she was Head of External Relations at Bournemouth University. After moving to the Netherlands she taught English Conversation classes at the Goese Lyceum. In August 2004 she started at the Roosevelt Academy (nowadays University College Roosevelt (UCR)) as instructor, tutor and PR Advisor to the Dean. Luscombe taught Rhetoric, Journalism and other communication related courses. She had a teaching fellowship at the University of Central Missouri in 2010 and was a Fulbright teaching and research fellow at Bard College in 2017. Luscombe has conducted research into radio history and is particularly interested in how former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt used radio during the Cold War.[2] In January 2025 Luscombe became Director of the Zeeuws Archief, in Middelburg, succeeding Archivist Hannie Kool-Blokland on her retirement.
