Vóór de herverkaveling van het gebied in 1956/57 lag er een strandwalachtige zandrug [[Ondergrond]], Oude Duinlandschap) waarvan het hoogste stuk ook wel het Diekje werd genoemd. Tijdens de afgraving in het kader van bovengenoemde cultuur-technische werken is ter plaatse oudheidkundig onderzoek verricht, waarbij belangrijke nederzettingssporen uit de Late Steentijd (ca. 2200 j. v. Chr., [[Prehistorie]]), de [[Romeinse]] tijd en de middeleeuwen zijn aangetroffen.
